FAQs
What is Accelerated Resolution Therapy
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is an evidence-based therapy that helps people quickly reduce distress from trauma, anxiety, PTSD, and painful memories. Using guided eye movements and focused imagery, ART helps the brain reprocess difficult experiences so they lose their emotional intensity. Many people experience meaningful relief in just a few sessions, often without needing to talk through every detail of the event.
As a trained ART provider, I offer a calm, supportive environment where you can process difficult experiences safely and at your own pace. My goal is to help you find relief from trauma, anxiety, and overwhelming memories using effective, research-supported techniques so you can move forward with greater clarity and confidence.
How does ART work?
ART works by helping your brain reprocess distressing memories so they no longer trigger the same intense emotions. During a session, you remain in control while guided eye movements and imagery techniques help your mind “re-store” these memories in a way that feels neutral or empowering.
How many ART sessions are needed?
The number of ART sessions varies depending on your needs and the complexity of the issues being addressed. Many clients experience meaningful relief in just 1–5 sessions, though some may benefit from additional sessions for ongoing growth or support. Each session is tailored to your pace and goals to help you move forward effectively.
Do I have to talk about trauma in detail?
No. One of the benefits of Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is that you do not need to relive or describe every detail of a painful experience. ART uses guided eye movements and imagery to help your brain process and release the emotional intensity of the memory, allowing healing to occur safely and effectively while you remain in control.
What is equine assisted counseling?
Healing and change takes more than talking. Horses are highly intuitive and sensitive beings who have a special ability to connect in ways that help you become present-focused, to identify your feelings, and to work through emotional and behavioral barriers without shame or stigma. Horses are large and powerful, and it is hard to ignore their presence - much like a seemingly impossible life issue. As such, horses can provide a metaphor for events or situations in your life. Difficult feelings and situations cannot always be put into words, and sometimes it's better not to try. Bringing horses into the treatment process compels you to be in the present moment, so that you aren’t focusing on the past or worrying about the future, but dealing with what’s going on now. This allows you to look at your life with clarity and groundedness. Physically engaging with horses while you are also processing what’s going on emotionally, you have the opportunity to “rewrite” your life stories and move forward. Horses provide a relationship for safe healing to occur, even without verbalizing. An innovative approach that goes beyond traditional therapy. A powerful metaphor for situations in your life. Because of their size, innate and acute sensitivity, and non-verbal nature, horses have a unique appeal helping clients of all ages become more engaged in the psychotherapy process.
